REVIEW OF ODCH, REVISION 8 FOR NINE MILE POINT NUCLEAR STATION UNIT NO.

1 (TAC NO. M82734)

By letter dated August 30,

1990, Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation (NMPC) submitted a copy of Revision 8 to the ODCH for Nine Mile Point 1.

Revision 8

of the ODCM was reviewed by our contractor, EG&G Idaho, Inc.

Their discussion and comments are contained in Technical Evaluation Report (TER)

EGG-PHY-10286, a copy of which is enclosed.

The NRC staff agrees with our contractor that the ODCH uses methods that are, in general, consistent with NRC staff guidance.

However, the Category A comments contained in the summary section (Chapter

5) of the TER should be addressed promptly by NMPC.

Please notify the NRC within 6 months of receipt of this letter regarding NHPC's disposition of the Category A comments.

All other recommended changes are relatively

minor, and should be considered by NMPC for inclusion in future ODCM revisions.

This requirement affects one respondent and, therefore, is not subject to Office of Management and Budget review under P.L.96-511.
