This letter refers to the unannounced
inspection conducted by Mr. H. J. Kaplan and Ms. C.
D. Beardslee of this office on July 8-12, 1991 at Nine Mile Point Units
1 & 2.
H. J. Kaplan
discussed
the findings of the inspection with members of your staff at the conclusion of the
mspection.
The processing of Problem Reports, the Erosion/Corrosion Program and Water Chemistry
Control were examined during this inspection and focused on issues important to the
assurance of operability and safety.
The conversion of Problem Reports to Deviation/Event
Reports,
a system whose effectiveness will increase the safety of the plant, was reviewed.
The Erosion/Corrosion Program, which is intended to prevent material failure, personal
injury and loss of electric generation,
was reviewed.
Water Chemistry Control was inspected
by reviewing Quality Assurance Surveillance reports.
The details of the inspection are
contained in the enclosed inspection report.

Within the scope of this inspection, no violations or deviations were observed.
