This refers
to the results of the routine resident
safety
inspection
conducted
by Messrs.
W. Schmidt, R. Plasse,
W. Mattingly, and P. Drysdale from December
13,
1992 through
January 23, 1993, at Nine MilePoint Units
1 and 2, Scriba, New York. Mr. Schmidt discussed
the
inspection
findings with members
of your staff at, the exit meeting
conducted
on
February
1, 1993.
This inspection was directed toward areas important to public health and safety.
The enclosed
NRC Region I Inspection Report describes
the areas examined during the inspection.
Within
these areas,
the inspection consisted of observation of activities in progress,
interviews with
personnel,
and selective examinations of procedures
and representative
records.
Your operations department and the support department staffs combined to operate both plants
safely over the period.
Good questioning attitudes and response to issues and events contributed
to identification and resolution of safety issues.
Specifically, identification of Unit 1 operating
at 100,5% of rated power for approximately
12 hours1.388889e-4 days <br />0.00333 hours <br />1.984127e-5 weeks <br />4.566e-6 months <br />,
and a loss of power to the Unit 2
Division II switchgear were handled promptly and effectively by your staffs.
