SUBJECT:
RECFIPT OF
RESPONSE
TO GENERIC LETTER 89-16, "INSTALLATIONOF A HARDENED METWELL VENT" - NINE MILE POINT NUCLEAR STATION, UNIT NO.
1 (TAC NO. 74874)
By letter dated October 30, 1989, Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation (NMPC) responded to Generic Letter (GL) 89-16, "Installation of a Hardened Metwell Vent."
NMPC proposed to install a hardened vent under the provisions of 10 CFR 50.59, as per GL 89-16 guidance, and estimated that the modifications would be completed by March 1994.
By letter dated January 22, 1990, the staff acknowledged receipt of NMPC's response and requested that NMPC reevaluate its schedule to determine if it would be feasible to complete the proposed modifications by January 1993.
By letter dated October 15, 1990, NMPC confirmed that the modifications to the venting system would be performed in accordance with the guidance provided in GL 89-16.
NMPC further stated that the work associated with the modifications would be completed during the 1992 refueling outage, scheduled to begin in September 1992.
The staff finds this revised schedule for completion of the modifications to the venting system acceptable.
It is requested that you notify the staff in writing if your schedule changes.
In addition, NMPC is requested to inform the NRC in writing when the modifications have been completed.
This requirement affects one respondent, and, therefore, is not subject to Office of Management and Budget review under P. L.96-511 Sincerely, ORIGINAL SIGNED BY:
