OGC VStello I'his is in response to your letter dated October 25, 1978 to the Secretary of the Commission concerning the health and safety con-sequences of operating a low level waste incinerator planned for installation at Nine facile Point Unit No.
1 in New York.
You requested any technical information we have regarding the aforementioned subject.
I am enclosing the following items:
(1) Newport News Industrial Corporation Topical Report No. EI/NNI-77-7-NP," RMR-lTt'l Radwaste Volume Reduction System,"
dated June 24, 1977, and (2) Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation letter dated September 1, 1978"submitted in accordance with 10 CFR 20.305.
You further inquired as to whether an environmental assessment of this technology would'e prepared.
A safety evaluation and an environmental assessment are presently being made.
Upon completion of these reviews we will issue a safety evaluation report and either an environmental impact appraisal or an environmental impact statement in accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 51.5 and 40 CFR 1500.6.
You will receive a copy of the EIA or EIS, as applicable, when issued.
