SCHEDULING OF INITIAL OPERATOR LICENSE EXAMINATIONS -

BYRON STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2

Dear Mr. Hanson:

We have received your corporate letter RS-16-156, dated July 18, 2016, and site letter 2016-0125, dated December 15, 2016, in response to U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Regulatory Issue Summary 2016-09, Preparation and Scheduling of Operator Licensing Examinations. In the letters, you requested initial operator licensing examinations be scheduled for December 2018, August 2019, July 2020 and September 2021, at the Byron Station. Additionally you requested that the exam scheduled for February 2018 be moved to December 2017. In response, we have scheduled initial operator licensing examinations for the weeks of:

• December 4, and 11, 2017, with an onsite validation date the week of November 13, 2017;

• January 7, 14, and 21 2019, with an onsite validation date the week of December 10, 2018;

• October 28 and November 4, 2019, with an onsite validation date the week of September 30, 2019;

• August 31 and September 6, 2020, with an onsite validation date the week of August 10, 2020; and

• September 20 and 27, 2021, with an onsite validation date the week of August 23, 2021.

The NRC will write the examination scheduled to be administered in October/November 2019 in accordance with NUREG-1021, Revision 11. In the unlikely event that we are unable to support the examination during the scheduled weeks, we will inform you immediately, upon discovery, of such conditions and make arrangements to administer the examination at a mutually acceptable date.

B. Hanson We understand that your staff will develop the examinations scheduled for January 2019, 2020 and 2021, unless we determine it is necessary for the NRC to develop an examination in which case, we will notify you immediately upon discovery of that need. Because your letter indicated that there were more than nine applicants being considered for each of these examinations, the examinations were each scheduled for 2 weeks. Please inform us if the number of candidates change for any examination as this will impact the examination schedule. Also, please inform us at your earliest opportunity if you discover you need to change the scheduled dates for the examinations.

A supplementary letter will be sent to the training department approximately 210 days prior to the examination informing the training manager of the chief examiners name. The letter will also outline examination security expectations, list the materials required by the NRC to conduct the examination, reconfirm the examination date, and reconfirm the number of candidates you have in the Training Program.

This letter will be made available for public inspection and copying at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html and at the NRC Public Document Room in accordance with 10 CFR 2.390, Public Inspections, Exemptions, Requests for Withholding.
