Nine Mile Point Unit 1 Docket No. 50-220 Your letter dated March 25, 1974 requested further information concerning "Part 2 Proprietary Response" attached to our letter of January 15, 1974.

Based on a request made by the General Electric

Company, we requested proprietary treatment of that portion of the re-sponse.

General Electric requested that the information contained in Supplements B and C to the Nine Mile Point Unit 1 reload license submittal be'withheld from public disclosure.

This information is available only on a 'need to know'asis to General Electric employees.

It has not been released outside the company except through limited releases designated as proprietary and strictly controlling its use.

For example, the manufacturing specifications and tolerances shown are based on extensive experience and experimental data gained at General Electric's expense.

Public. release could, allow competitors to dupli-,

cate all or part of the fuel without similar expense.

Public disclosure of the getter characteristics would substantially decrease the commercial advantage which General Electric has developed in this area at its con-siderable expense.

The neutron fluxes and,fuel rod pressures have been determined from proprietary models developed at General Electric's expense.
