Rscssvsd vvicsv Ddt~+ Mcc-Wdd Docket No. 50-220 Petition Requesting Amendment of License Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, Licensee in the above-captioned proceeding, hereby files its petition to amend its license in order to allow operation of its Nine Mile Point facility at a higher power level than the present license permits.

In support of this petition, Licensee states as follows:

(1)

Licensee received on August 22,

1969, a

provisional operating license (DPR-17) permitting it to operate its Nine Mile gl A i Point facility at 1538 MWt.

(2)

At the time of the design and construction of the aforementioned facility, Niagara Mohawk had the components of the facility designed to accommodate operation of the facility at a power level higher than the power level presently authorized.

In addition, the principal

>>2-postulated accidents for the facility were also analyzed at a power level considerably higher than the power level presently authorized.

(3)

A document entitled, "Technical Supplement to Petition to Increase Power Level" accompanies this petition and is hereby incorpor ated by referenc e.

This Supplement contains:

(a) a description of minor changes to the facility, none of which reflects upon the capability of the facility; (b) a reanalysis of postulated accidents at the higher power level; (c) proposed revised technical specifications; (d) a summary of the initial startup of the facility, and (e) other relevant technical material.

WHEREFORE, Licensee prays that its operating license

0 be amended to allow operation of its Nine Mile Point facility at 1850 Mwt.
