In response to our letter of August 3, 1972, re@mUng the possible failure of non-class I seismic equipment which could cause flodding and adversely affect engineered safety systems, you submitted inform;ion in your letter of September 29, 1972, concerning Nine Nile Point Uhit l.

In our evaluation, we reviewed whether failure of any equipment could

.cause XloocKng such that ccfmon mode faQure of redundant'afety related equipment could result.

, Ve have reviewed the various water system such as th circulating water, service water, fire protection and condensate for the consequences of a possible rupture and potential .f1ooding of safety equipment. OrQy in one plant area, i.e. reactor building ECCS rooms, could safety equipment be affected by flooding and although some engineered safeguazds equipment could be lost, redundant equipment is available in another area which could safely shutdown the facility.

Ve therefore conclude that 'le M.le Unit 1 has for protection against the rupture of a non-class I component or piping adequate design features with a coincident loss of offsite power, such that engineered safety features are capable of safely shutting dorm the f'acility.
