Dear Mr. Case:
Mr. Varga's January 12, 1978 letter requested that the conclusions regarding the geologic features at Nine Mile Point Unit 2 be provided by February 2, 1978, and the final report be submitted by March 17, 1978. My January 17, 1978 letter provided a summary of key results and conclusions regarding the geologic structures at Unit 2. Additionally, this letter indicated that the final report on the geologic features would be submitted April 28, 1978. To ensure a comprehensive report, the scope of investi-gation has been structured to be broad-based providing for a full review, definition and evaluation of the geologic features and their significance. The program has been continuously monitored and directed throughout the investigative process to focus the scope without overlooking salient considerations. Various evidence has caused a considerable broadening of the scope beyond the initial assessment. These considerations have greatly increased manhour requirements for investigation, analysis and documentation necessary to properly access this important matter. We have reviewed our schedule in light of your request to provide the final report by March 17, 1978.
