RE UEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION GENERIC LETTER 92-01 REVISION 1
REACTOR VESSEL STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY IABLO CANYON POWER PLANT UNITS 1
AND 2 The following questions relate to GL 92-01, Revision 1 dated March 6, 1992.
For ease of reference, each request is related to the corresponding question in GL 92-01.
Diablo Can on Unit 1:
uestion 2a in GL 92-01 The supplemental information for the licensee's response to GL 92-01, Revision 1 indicates that the initial upper-shelf energy (USE) value of 103 ft-lb for the circumferential weld, 9-442, was estimated from the average of all Diablo Canyon Power Plant welds made with Linde 1092 flux.
Provide all Charpy USE data and analysis from welds that lead to the average value of 103 ft-lb to demonstrate that weld 9-442 will meet the USE requirements of Appendix G,
Make sure that all welds used were fabricated using the same vendor, fabrication time frame, fabrication process, and material specification.
If this cannot be
- provided, then submit an analysis which demonstrates that lower values of USE will provide margins of safety against fracture equivalent to those required by Appendix G of the ASME Code.
Diablo Can on Unit 2:
uestion 2a in GL 92-01 The supplemental information for the licensee's response to GL 92-01, Revision 1 indicates that the initial USE value of 125 ft-lb for the circumferential weld, 9-201, and 88 ft-lb for the axial welds, 3-201 A, B,
and C were estimated from the average of three Charpy tests at 10'F.
Provide all Charpy data and analysis from welds that lead to USE values of 125 and 88 ft-lb to demonstrate that the weld 9-201 and welds 3-201 A, B, and C will meet the USE requirements of Appendix G, 10 CFR 50.
Make sure that all welds used were fabricated using the same vendor, fabrication time frame, fabrication process, and material specification.
If this cannot be provided, then submit an analysis which demonstrates that lower values of USE will provide margins of safety against fracture equivalent to those required by Appendix G of the ASME Code.
