SUBJECT:

EMERGENCY RESPONSE DATASYSTEM - DIABLOCANYON UNIT NOS.

1 AND 2

Dear Mr. Rueger:

In your letter dated June 18, 1999 (PG8 E Letter DCL-99-086) you forwarded information related to the planned hardware and software upgrades to the Diablo Canyon, Units 1 and 2 Emergency Response Data System (ERDS) links. The Data Point Libraries (DPL) submitted in this letter have been reviewed and although they conveyed the minimum information necessary to allow information transfer between your SPDS and the NRC ERDS computers, they do not provide adequate information to allow meaningful analysis of the data provided over ERDS.

Numerous applicable fields in most DPL data sheets were marked N/A. The purpose of this letter is to request that PG8 E update the ERDS DPLs submitted in your June 18, 1999, letter to provide the missing information. The Information which you provided has been forwarded to the NRC ERDS contractors to allow testing of your revised ERDS interface to proceed, however, the DPLs willnot be loaded on the production system at NRC Headquarters without the necessary amplifying information.

Guidance on the applicable information for all fields in the DPL data sheet is provided in NUREG 1394 (Rev. 1).

In addition, the NRC ERDS Project Officer, Mr. John Jolicoeur will coordinate with your staff to minimize any confusion concerning this request.

Mr. Jolicoeur may be reached at (301) 415-6383 or at e-mail address jrj1@nrc.gov and I can be reached at (301) 415-1313.

'Sincerely,

'RIG.
