ENCLOSURE 1 DIABLO CANYON ALLEGATION MANAGEMENT PROGRAM JANUARY 1985 STATUS The review assignments and status for all of the Diablo Canyon allegations are graphically depicted in Attachment 1, for both Unit 1 and Unit 2.

Except for eight allegations directed specifically to Unit 2, all allegations were reviewed with respect to Unit 1 only, as described in SSERs 21, 22 and 26.

In November 1984, the staff began sorting the technical allegations for Unit 2 applicability, using the criteria described in Attachment 2.

The total number of allegations for the Diablo Canyon Project, as of January 31, 1985, is 1656.

This figure reflects all of those incorporated into the tracking system following the Region V review of the documentation and elimination of duplicates, as described in the attached Allegation Review Board Meeting Summary dated January 15, 1985 (Attachment 3).

While not all allegations have been resolved, all have been reviewed against the screening criteria presented in SSER 22.

This screening review indicated that none of the concerns are of sufficient safety significance to preclude continued operation of Unit 1 or low-power licensing of Unit 2.

Staff evaluation of the allegations resolved subsequent to SSER 26 (July 1984) will be presented in SSER 28 which is scheduled to be issued in February 1985.

The staff's review of the unresolved allegations is continuing in parallel with the applicability review for Unit 2.

We expect that the allegations applicable to Unit 2 will be identified within about the next two weeks.

As a result, the number of Unit 2 "open" allegations will correspondingly decrease where Unit 1 resolutions are found to apply'o Unit 2.

In addition, there are approximately five allegations which are being considered for referral to OIA because they may involve concerns regarding NRC staff practice.
