~>//Pp This is in response to your November 27, 1981 letter regarding Diablo Canyon.

As you are probably aware, on November 19, 1981 the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has suspended authorization to load fuel and conduct low power operations at, Diablo Canyon Unit 1

(CLI 81-30).

The Commission Order required Pacific Gas 5 Electric Company (PGSE) to conduct an independent design review of all seismic service-related contracts prior to June 1978.

This Order, also required PG8E to submit for NRC review and approval the qualifications of the companies they propose to conduct the independent design review and a

detailed program plan.

The Order also indicated that 15 days would be provided to the Governor of California and the Joint Inter venors to provide comments on these submittals.

PG8E provided these submittals, by letter dated December 4, 1981, to the NRC on December 8, 1981.

Approval of the proposed companies and/or the proposed program plan will not be given until the staff evaluation of these submittals and comments on these submittals is complete.

It is antici-pated that this will occur in early January 1982.

We appreciate your interest in this matter and your offer to participate in this review.

As indicated above, PME proposals are currently under review, we will keep you apprised of the results of the review.
