OF SEPTEMBER 14, 2016, CATEGORY 2 PUBLIC MEETING WITH DUKE ENERGY CAROLINAS TO DISCUSS SEISMIC PROBABILISTIC RISK ASSESSMENTS ASSOCIATED WITH IMPLEMENTATION OF JAPAN LESSONS-LEARNED NEAR-TERM TASK FORCE RECOMMENDATION 2.1, SEISMIC, FOR CATAWBA NUCLEAR STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 AND MCGUIRE NUCLEAR STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 On September 14, 2016 1 , the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a Category 2 public meeting with Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC (Duke, the licensee) at NRC Headquarters, One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss a forthcoming request for relief from performing seismic probabilistic risk assessments (SPRAs) for Catawba Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2, and McGuire Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2, in response to the seismic portion of the NRC's March 12, 2012, request for information issued pursuant to Title 1Oto the Code of Federal Regulations Part 50, Section 50.54(f) (hereafter referred to as the 50.54(f) letter2 ).

The NRC staff and Duke Energy representatives' discussions included the following meeting highlights:

1. Duke representatives discussed the basis which they believe supports SPRA relief for the McGuire and Catawba Nuclear Stations. Duke Energy's slides can be found under ADAMS Accession No. ML16257A427.
2. Duke representatives stated that a formal request for SPRA relief for the subject plants would be submitted to the NRC in mid-to-late October.

'The meeting notice is available via the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) under Accession No. ML16257A599.

No regulatory decisions or commitments were made during the meeting. The public was invited to observe the meeting and was given several opportunities to communicate with the NRC during the public meeting and before adjourning. The NRC staff received one meeting feedback form and no public comments.
