SUBJECT:
OCONEE CABLE PENETRATION FIRE STOP TESTS Item 3.1.13 of the August 11, 1978 Oconee Fire Protection SER inoted that cable penetration'firesstop tests would be performed and that existing cable penetration fire stops would be upgraded to designs found acceptable by testing. By letters of May 5, and June 19, 1978, Duke Power Company provided the results of fire stop tests performed by Southwest Research Institute and described.the modified fire stop design that would be used at-Oconee. The fire stop will consist of four inches of "monokote" manufactured by W. R. Grq.e and Company and six inches of "Firewell" manufactured by Chemtrol Company.. This firestop design was tested in accordance with IEEE Standard P634/D4, Cable Penetration Fire Stop Qualification Test."
We find that adequate testing has been performed to demonstrate the ability of the modified fire stop. design 'to withstand'an ASTM E-119 expoeure fire for at least three hours.. Accordingly, we find the modified fire stop design fo be acceptable.
The only remaining incomplete item in'the Oconee fire protection review is the review of further design details related to the dedicated shut down system. We understand that this information.should be submitted by the licensee before March 29, 1980.
