NRC Feedback and Path-Forward regarding Draft NEI 96-07 Appendix D

Jason, The NRC staff would like to provide initial feedback regarding its review to date of Draft NEI 96-07 Appendix D, Supplemental Guidance for Application of 10 CFR 50.59 to Digital Modifications, draft Revision 0 (ADAMS Accession No. ML16126A197). The NRC staff looks forward to continued interactions with NEI regarding draft Appendix D.

The attachment to this email broadly summarizes the NRC staffs observations during its review of Appendix D to date. Please note the key areas of focus for NRC staffs review that require further clarification. The NRC staff intends to schedule bi-weekly public meetings to discuss these key areas of focus in more detail. The NRC staff will develop agendas for each bi-weekly meeting as well as detailed comments/questions prior to each meeting, to the extent practical. The NRC staff believes that continued engagement with stakeholders to resolve key areas of interest is essential for developing and maintaining a path forward for this review. It is the NRC staffs goal to maintain a constructive dialogue with all interested stakeholders and welcomes future opportunities for public engagement.

We look forward to our scheduled meetings and moving forward with providing licensees excellent guidance.
