SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF MEETING WITH DUKE POWER COMPANY ON SEISMIC QUALIFICATION OF THE EMERGENCY FEEDWATER SYSTEM Introduction On July 9, 1985, the staff met with representatives of Duke Power Company (the licensee) in Bethesda, Maryland to discuss the seismic qualification of the emergency feedwater system at the Oconee Nuclear Station and obtain information for the staff to finalize its position on the system's adequacy.
The list of participants is included in Enclosure 1.
Discussion The staff requested this meeting with the licensee to resolve open items and obtain additional information for its review. By letter dated June 18, 1985, the staff sent the licensee a list of questions which served as the agenda for the meeting. The questions are included as Enclosure 2. The viewgraphs used by the licensee to respond to each of the four areas of concern, are included as Enclosure 3. Enclosure 4 includes the licensee's written response to those questions.
Based on the information obtained during the meeting and any previous correspondence, the staff will write its Safety Evaluation in the very near future and finalize its.position on the system's adequacy. This Safety Evaluation will be sent to the licensee. If the licensee disagrees with the staff's position, then as noted in its April 19, 1985 letter, Duke may elect to appeal, in writing, to NRR management under the backfit procedures.
