Dear Mr. Tuckman:

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) received information regarding computer software that could be in use at your facilities. The elements of the concern are provided for you review. The safety significance is not known as it would depend on the application at your nuclear power plants. We request that you review the information in the enclosure to this letter and provide responses to the NRC.

The enclosure to this letter should be controlled, with distribution limited to personnel with a "need-to-know" until your review has been completed and evaluated by the NRC. The enclosure is considered as Exemption from Public Disclosure in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Requlations (10 CFR), Part 2.790(a). In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this letter, excluding the enclosure, will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.

Please submit your response to us within 60 days of the receipt of this letter. We also request that your response contain no personal privacy, proprietary, or safeguards information so it can be released to the public and placed in the NRC Public Document Room. If necessary, such information shall be contained in a separate attachment which will be withheld from public disclosure.

The information collections contained in this request are covered by the Office of Management and Budget clearance number 3150-0011, which expires July 31, 1997. The public reporting burden for this collection of information is estimated to average 25 hours2.893519e-4 days <br />0.00694 hours <br />4.133598e-5 weeks <br />9.5125e-6 months <br /> per response, including the time for reviewing instructions, searching existing data sources, gathering and maintaining the data needed, and completing and reviewing the collection of information.
