Method used to generate the written exam outline:

  • Random selection of K/As by use of a random number generator in Excel, using the methodology described in ES-401, Attachment 1. K/As were suppressed as described in the suppression list, and specific K/As were rejected as documented in Form ES-401-4.
  • Randomly and Systematically selected replacement K/As Systematic selection means that replacement K/As were selected from same evolution or system, and a K/A of the same topic area. If an appropriate K/A from the same evolution or system could not be used, then one was selected from the same Tier and Group, to keep the ES-401 balanced.

The randomness of selection was accomplished by starting at the beginning of the K/A topic area and working down, avoiding oversampling with other questions (especially with Generic K/As) and avoiding overlapping questions from the Audit exams that were previously created.

JPM selection:

System JPMs

  • System JPM B, Switch to Hot Leg Recirculation was used on the 2013 NRC exam and reflected as Previously Used on the outline.
  • No other system JPMs were used on the last 2 NRC exams.

SRO Admin JPMS

  • SA-b Minimum Shift Staffing, was used on the 2013 NRC exam and reflected as Previously Used on the outline.
  • SA-c is Initiate a LCOAR. 2014 NRC exam had a JPM, for failed Pzr PORV, TS 3.4.11 and TRM 3.4.d evaluation. This exam will be a significantly different TS evaluation (not yet selected).
  • SA-e is Classify and Complete NARS Form. 2014 NRC exam had a JPM, for an HA5, for an earthquake. This exam will be a significantly different EAL classification.
