JAMES A. FITZPATRICK NUCLEAR POWER PLANT - WITHDRAWAL OF PROPOSED ALTERNATIVE IN ACCORDANCE WITH 10 CFR 50.55a(z)(1)
Dear Sir or Madam:
By letter dated August 18, 2015 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML15230A350), Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc. (Entergy, the licensee), submitted a proposed alternative for the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant (JAF}, pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(z)(1 ). The licensee proposed an alternative to American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)Section XI, 2001 Edition through the 2003 Addenda, Table IWB-2500-1, Examination Category B-A, Item No. B1.11, which requires volumetric examination of the reactor vessel circumferential shell welds each inservice inspection interval.
Subsequently, by letter dated March 15, 2016 (ADAMS Accession No. ML16076A232}, you withdrew the proposed alternative based on Entergy's intention to permanently cease power operations at JAF at the end of the current operating cycle and, therefore, no longer needed the alternative requested.
The purpose of this letter is to advise that the above-cited proposed alternative is being treated as withdrawn. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff activities on the review have ceased and the associated Cost Activity Code (CAC MF6616) has been closed.
