GENERIC AGING LESSONS LEARNED FOR SUBSEQUENT LICENSE RENEWAL REPORT AND STANDARD REVIEW PLAN FOR REVIEW OF SUBSEQUENT LINCENSE RENEWAL APPLICATIONS FOR NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS SUPPLEMENTAL STAFF GUIDANCE

Dear Mr. Remer:

The draft NUREG-2191, Generic Aging Lessons Learned for Subsequent License Renewal (GALL-SLR) Report, Volumes I and II and draft NUREG-2192, Standard Review Plan for Review of Subsequent License Renewal Applications for Nuclear Power Plants (SRP-SLR),

were issued for public comment on December 23, 2015. Subsequent to the issuance of these documents, changes, as described in the GALL-SLR and SRP-SLR Supplemental Staff Guidance, were developed by the staff. This supplement is being released for public comments. Comments received on the changes proposed in this document will be addressed along with comments received on the draft versions of NUREG-2191 and NUREG-2192. The changes will then be incorporated into the final versions of NUREG-2191 and NUREG-2192.

The topical areas addressed in this supplement to the publically available GALL-SLR Report and SRP-SLR are as follows:

  • Selective leaching of ductile iron
  • Changes to further evaluation (FE), aging management program (AMP) XI.M29, Aboveground Metallic Tanks, AMP XI.M36, "External Surfaces Monitoring of Mechanical Components, and aging management review (AMR) line items to address cracking and loss of material for aluminum and stainless steel components
  • A new title for AMP XI.M29
  • Issuance of LR-ISG-2015-01, Changes to Buried and Underground Piping and Tank Recommendations
  • Minor technical and editorial changes to AMR line items and AMPs
  • Response to certain initial comments from the industry as presented at a public meeting on January 21, 2016 Enclosed is a copy of the supplemental guidance to draft NUREG-2191 and NUREG-2192, and the Federal Register notice announcing the issuance of this supplement. To inform other stakeholders of the issuance of the supplemental guidance to draft NUREG-2191 and NUREG-2192, courtesy copies of this letter are being sent to subscribers of an NRC electronic mailing list on general license renewal topics.
