In the Reference 1 letter, PSEG Nuclear LLC (PSEG) submitted a license amendment request (LAR) for Salem Nuclear Generating Station (Salem), Units 1 and 2. The proposed amendment would isolate unborated water sources and permit use of Gamma-Metrics Post-Accident neutron monitors during Mode 6 (Refueling).
PSEG requested NRC approval of the proposed LAR by March 9, 2016, to support planned modifications to replace the existing source range and intermediate range nuclear instrumentation during the Unit 1 Spring 2016 refueling outage ( 1 R24 ). PSEG has re-assessed the work scope for the Salem 1 R24 outage and determined that the replacement of the source range and intermediate detectors is going to be moved from the 1 R24 outage to the Fall 2017 refueling outage (1 R25). Based on this decision, PSEG is updating the implementation schedule requested in Reference 1.
PSEG is requesting a 120-day implementation period to allow for implementation to extend beyond the 1 R24 refueling outage.
