-U The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DThC) invites your comments on the draft Hazardous Waste Facility Permit (draft Permit) for San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (San Onofre) located at 5000 Pacific Coast Highway, San Olemq; California, 92672 and the address for Southern California EFiso (Edai~son) is *244 Walnut Grv Avenue, Rosemead, California 91770.
In November of 2014, DTSC published a public notice regardin the receipt of the permit renewal application from Edison. The draft Permit, if approved, allows Edison, the operator, to store hazar'dous.waste with varying levels of radioactivity for up to one year at San Onofre as they continue the plant decomisinn process. In 2005, DTSC granted a hazardous waste storage in December 2013. In Novemhber of

and shipment of plant components willresult in ih*:
generation of hazardous waste, some of which will contain varyig levels of radioactivity. Wre refer to this type of hazardous waste as mixed or combined waste. All mixed or combined waste must be managed according to DTSC hazardous waste regulations as well as United States Nucdear Regulatory Cor~imssion regulations.
M£ixed wastes are stored in closed containers. Examples of these wastes include used oil, chemical solvents, lead solids, and asbestos. Edison ships these wastes off-site within one year from the day they began storage. Mixed waste 'does not include the spent nuclear fuel from the nuclear reactors.
