COLUMBIA GENERATING STATION ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF RESPONSE
TO NRC INSPECTION REPORT 05000397/2015003 AND DENIAL OF
NON-CITED VIOLATION 05000397/2015003-03
Dear Mr. Reddemann:
This letter acknowledges your December 22, 2015, (ML15356A817) correspondence in
response to NRC Inspection Report 05000397/2015003, (ML15316A834) dated
November 12, 2015. On November 12, 2015, the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)
documented Columbia Generating Stations failure to demonstrate the ability of the control
room HVAC design to maintain the temperatures in the main control room below habitability
and environmental qualification limits. This violation was documented as non-cited violation
NCV 05000397/2015003-03, Failure to Provide Design Control Measures for Control Room
Emergency Chillers. The non-cited violation enclosed with Inspection
Report 05000397/2015003 required you to respond in writing within 30 days if you contest the
violation. By your letter dated December 11, 2015, (ML15345A218), you requested an
extension of 10 days to respond to the November 12, 2015, NRC Inspection
Report 05000397/2015003.
On December 22, 2015, the NRC received a letter from you contesting this violation. The
NRC is currently reviewing your basis for contesting the violation in accordance with Part I,
Section 2.2.8 of the Enforcement Manual. Accordingly, we will provide the results of our
evaluation by written response within 90 days of the receipt of your letter.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390, Public Inspections, Exemptions, Requests for Withholding,
of the NRCs Rules of Practice, a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public
inspection in the NRCs Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records (PARS)
