ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF REGULATORY COMMITMENT CHANGE REGARDING CAVITATION EROSION (CAC NOS. MF6750, MF6751, AND MF6752)
Dear Mr. Edington:
By letter dated September 18, 2015 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML15261A882), Arizona Public Service Company, the licensee for Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (PVNGS), Units 1, 2, and 3, submitted a letter informing the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) of a revision to a commitment for license renewal. The commitment is related to cavitation erosion on susceptible and potentially susceptible safety-injection system components. The commitment was revised to establish a six-cycle, condition-based monitoring plan which will perform an engineering inspection of the confirmed susceptible piping locations and perform piping replacement as necessary in lieu of a time-based replacement frequency of 7.5 years. The commitment change results in a change in the licensee's Updated Final Safety Analysis Report.
A clarification call was held with NRC staff and the licensee on October 8, 2015. The NRC staff acknowledges the change in commitment schedule and has no objections.
