Serial No.15-498 Docket No. 50-423 Attachment, Page 1 of 1 By letter dated July 30, 2015, Dominion Nuclear Connecticut, Inc. (DNC) submitted relief requests for limited coverage examinations performed in the first inspection period of the third 10-year inservice inspection interval for Millstone Power Station Unit 3 (MPS3).

In an email dated October 6, 2015, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) transmitted a request for additional information (RAI) to DNC related to Relief Requests IR-3-19, IR-3-20, and IR-3-21. This attachment provides DNC's response to the NRC's RAI.

Question 1 For Requests for Relief Nos. IR-3-19, /R-3-20, and/IR-3-21, please clarify the statement that welds contained in the subject relief requests were examined "using pulse echo ultrasonic instruments and search units."

Specifically, provide the non-destructive examination procedure used in the subject ultrasonic examinations (.e.g., ASME Code, Section Xl, Appendix V///; or Section V, Article 4; or other).

DNC Response The statement "using pulse echo ultrasonic instruments and search units" describes the type of instrumentation used for the examinations. For the examinations addressed in Relief Requests IR-3-19, IR-3-20, and IR-3-21, the equipment used to perform the examinations consisted of non-encoded, manual conventional (non-phased array) examination equipment with procedures written in accordance with ASME Section Xl, Appendix I and Section V, Article 4.
