Oyster Creek estimated annual take limit exceeded Hi Julie, Oyster Creek exceeded their estimated annual take for Kemps ridley turtles as of July 27, 2015. (I just received copies of the detailed reports confirming the species earlier this week.) The plant has incidentally captured 6 Kemps ridleys in 2015, but the estimated annual take is 4 (not specified in BiOp, but agreed upon in emails following BiOp issuance). The takes were on the following dates: May 31, June 17, July 12, July 16, July 22, and July 27, 2015. The turtle collected on July 17 was dead with scrapes on the carapace, but the cause of death was stated as undetermined in the stranding report.
Oyster Creek also exceeded the estimated annual take in 2013 and 2014, but after discussing it with you, we determined that the neither years takes represented new information because the numbers were within the range of annual takes that have occurred at the plant in the past. This reasoning remains true of the 2015 takes, as well, but please let me know if you believe we need to take any further action to fully comply with T&C 10.
