SUMMARY

OF MEETING HELD ON SEPTEMBER 10, 1992, WITH THE BABCOCK AND WILCOX OWNERS GROUP On September 10, 1992, NRC staff members met in Rockville, Maryland, with the Babcock and Wilcox Owners Group (BWOG). A list of attendees is included as enclosure 1. The handout available at the meeting is included as enclosure 2.

Specific issues discussed were plant performance, reactor vessel materials, shutdown risk, BWOG generic plant life extension (PLEX) effort, digital plant control system, abnormal transients operating guidelines (ATOG), and steam generator performance. With regard to steam generator performance, BWOG feels that the performance has been good since the open lane area was stabilized.

Regarding plant performance, BWOG noted that the three-year rolling average of the unit capability factor for the B&W plants was the best in the industry.

Regarding PLEX, BWOG requested a meeting to discuss their generic PLEX effort.

The NRC staff agreed to hold a meeting with the BWOG to discuss their proposed generic PLEX effort. Regarding ATOG, BWOG requested that the review be completed within the next year. The NRC staff stated that it is their intent to work on the ATOG review following completion of a current shutdown risk effort. At the end of the meeting, there were no outstanding questions that would require followup.
