SUMMARY
OF MEETING HELD ON OCTOBER 25, 1978, IN BETHESDA, MARYLAND, TO DISCUSS QUALIFICATIONS OF STATION HEALTH PHYSICIST
Background
The Oconee Station Technical Specifications require that the Station Health Physicist (SHP) shall meet the minimum requirements of ANSI N18.1 1971.
This Standard defines acceptable mixes of education and experience totaling five years. Regulatory Guide 1.8 states tnat the Radiation Pro tection. Manager (Station Health Physicist.) should have a defined total of education and experience of nine years. The Oconee incumbent SHP has a total of 16 1/2 years of experience, and his qualifications are not in question.
Summary Duke Power Company stated that they are in compliance with the Rules and the intent of R. G. 1.8. Wnile we agree with tnis statement, we stated that our concern is that the Technical Specifications should require that the SHP meet the minimum guidance of R. G. 1.8. we requested that Duke Power Company submit a revision to the-Technical Specifications with the above suggestion. Duke Power Company representatives indicated they under stood our concern and would communicate with us further in regard to their decision or need for another meeting.
