AUXILIARY FEEDWATER PIPING PROTECTION AT CATAWBA, MCGUIRE AND OCONEE NUCLEAR STATIONS This is in response to your letters of May 20, 1986, which transmitted revisions 12, 18 and 26 to the Catawba, Oconee and McGuire Physical Security Plans, respectively. Region II transferred your submittals to the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, on July 11, 1986, since they contained policy implications regarding protection of randomly routed vital piping.
Based on our review, we have determined that this piping in question is vital equipment and should be protected as such. Our Safeguards staff met with Andrew Anderson, Duke Power Company representative, on July 7, 1987, and discussed this issue and our review determination.
Mr. Anderson volunteered to submit a proposal of protection for our review.
Until our receipt and review of this proposal, continue with your current approved Physical Security Plans and maintain the use of compensatory measures to protect this piping. Please respond within 60 days of the date of this letter so that review can continue.
The reporting and/or record-keeping requirements contained in this letter affect fewer than ten respondents; therefore, OMB clearance is not required under P.L.96-511.
