CONFIRMATION OF ACTION LETTER -
OCONEE UNIT 2 (CAL 50-270/92-01)
This refers to a telephone conversation between Mr. Ellis W.
Merschoff and you on October 20, 1992, concerning actions that you will take as a result of the Oconee Unit 2 trip and subse quent loss of AC power. We understand that Duke Power Company is actively pursuing the root cause of the recent events and that you will take the following actions:
- 1.
Determine the initiating cause for the event.
- 2.
Determine the cause of any electrical malfunctions including PCB 23.
- 3.
Determine the cause of the trip of Keowee 2 when Keowee 1 was taken off line.
- 4.
Determine the cause of the loss of auxiliary power to the Keowee generators.
Once an understanding is determined for these events, a confer ence call will be held with the NRC prior to returning Oconee Unit 2 to power operations.
If your understanding of our discussion is different from the above, please inform this office promptly. This confirmation of action letter does not preclude the NRC from issuing an Order which would require additional specific actions related to this matter.
