SUMMARY

OF JULY 13, 2015, MEETING WITH SNC ON HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE PIPING FOR HNP-2 (TAC NO. MF4860)

Previously, on September 19, 2014,*as supplemented on November 14, and November 24, 2014, and January 23, 2015, SNC, submitted a request for alternative HNP-ISl-ALT HDPE-01, Version 2.0 which requests authorization to replace buried steel Plant Service Water (PSW) piping with High Density Polyethylene (HOPE) piping for the duration of the license at HNP, Unit 2.

On July 13, 2015, a public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) representatives at NRC Headquarters, One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland. The licensee's objectives in the meeting were to discuss updates to its conceptual design for the use of high density polyethylene piping, to discuss the SNC responses to requests for additional information of February 19, 2015 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)

Accession No. ML15051A448), to discuss the content of updated HOPE stress analysis to be submitted by SNC in August 2015 and to discuss the schedule for SNC submittals and for NRC approval. SNC plans to submit its summary of the updated stress analysis and supporting items by August 31, 2015, and anticipates NRC staff approval of the alternative by November 16, 2015. '

The NRC staff found SNC's presentation to be an informative update of the status of the licensee's plans for this program. No regulatory decisions or commitments were made during the meeting.
