OF JUNE 11, 2015, MEETING WITH DUKE ENERGY PROGRESS, INC. TO DISCUSS FUEL RELOAD DESIGN METHODOLOGY REPORT AND PROPOSED LICENSE AMENDMENT REQUEST REGARDING THE SHEARON HARRIS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNIT 1, AND H. B. ROBINSON STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT, UNIT NO. 2 (TAC NOS. MF6236 AND MF6237)
On June 11, 2015, a partially open Category 1 public meeting and a partially closed meeting
. was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and representatives of Duke Energy Progress, Inc. (the licensee) at NRC Headquarters, One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss a fuel reload design methodology report and proposed license amendment request (LAR) regarding the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant, Unit 1 (Harris), and H. B. Robinson Steam Electric Plant, Unit No. 2 (Robinson). The meeting notice and agenda, dated May 27, 2015, is available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) at Accession No. ML15148A336. A list of attendees is enclosed.
The licensee presented informational slides at the meeting (ADAMS Accession No. ML15142A448).
During the meeting, the licensee discussed the thermal-hydraulic transient analysis methodology proposed to be used as part of fuel reload design for Harris and Robinson. The methodology, to be designated DPC-NE-3008-P, describes the RETRAN and VIPRE computer code models, which will be used for Harris and Robinson. The methodology extends an approach used at other licensee plants that has been previously reviewed and approved by the NRC. The licensee also provided an update on a series of four submittals concerning the licensee's fuel reload design methods, the first of which was received by the NRC staff in March 2015, and is under review. The NRC staff and the licensee discussed each of the above topics, and the licensee indicated that it would consider NRC staff comments in the preparation of the LAR.
No regulatory decisions were made at the meeting. No members of the public were in attendance. No Public Meeting Feedback forms were received.
