MCGUIRE NUCLEAR STATION, UNITS 1AND2-TRANSMITTAL OF DAM INSPECTION REPORT
Dear Mr. Capps:
On March 30, 2015, a routine safety inspection was conducted of the Standby Nuclear Service
- Water Pond (SNSWP) Dam at the McGuire Nuclear Station. The staff of the* U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has received and evalu.ated the final report from its technical
. assistance contractor, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commis.sion (FERC), related to this inspection. The inspection did not identify any conditions that represent a threat to the safety or the op~ration of the SNSWP..
The NRC staff concurs with the conclusions stated in the enclosed FERC report. The inspection included the earth dam, outlet ~tructure, toe area, abutments, instrumentation, and topographic features around the SNSWP. Based on visual inspection, discussions with licensee representatives, and data provided by Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC, the SNSWP.embankment and appurtenances are adequately maintained and in satisfactory condition for service, stability, and longevity. No conditions threatening dam safety were found.
The information in the report is considered critical energy infrastructure information. Thus the Enclosure is considered sensitive security-related information, official use only, and is being withheld from public disclosure.
. The Enclosure transmitted herewith contains sensitive unclassified non-safeguards information.
When separated from the Enclosure, this transmittal document is DECONTROLLED.
