10 CFR 50.55a VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY RICHMOND, VIRGINIA 23261 March 2, 2015 United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Serial No.
14-477A Attention: Document Control Desk NAPS/ETS RO Washington, D.C. 20555 Docket No.
50-339 License No. NPF-7 VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY (DOMINION)
NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNIT 2 ASME SECTION Xl INSERVICE INSPECTION PROGRAM PROPOSED INSERVICE INSPECTION ALTERNATIVE N2-14-NDE-002 In a letter dated October 6, 2014 (Serial No.14-477), Dominion requested Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approval of proposed inservice inspection (ISI)
Alternative N2-14-NDE-002.
This alternative would allow ASME Code Case N-729-1, Inspection Item B4.40 for Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) Closure Head nozzle and partial penetration welds of PWSCC-resistant materials to be reexamined once every 20 years for North Anna Power Station Unit 2 in lieu of the 10-year examination requirement outlined in ASME Code Case N-729-1.
In a February 11, 2015 telephone conference call with the NRC to discuss the proposed alternative inspection interval, Dominion requested that the extended inspection interval for the RPV Closure Head nozzle and partial penetration welds be changed from the twenty years to 15 years, which would permit completing the required examinations in refueling outage 28, currently scheduled for the spring of 2022. The Unit 2 RPV Closure Head nozzles and partial penetrations were last inspected in 2007 and the examination results were satisfactory and no service-induced indications were identified.
Dominion continues to request approval of the proposed alternative by June 30, 2015.
If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Jay Leberstien at (540) 894-2574.
Sincerely, Mark Sartain Vice President - Nuclear Engineering This letter contains no NRC commitments.
