UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 Mr. Eric McCartney Site Vice President NextEra Energy Point Beach, LLC 6610 Nuclear Road Two Rivers, WI 54241-9516 February 12, 2015
SUBJECT:
POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNIT 2 - CORRECTION OF TYPOGRAPHICAL ERROR INCURRED DURING PRIOR LICENSE AMENDMENT NO. 244 (TAC NO. MF5618)
Dear Mr. McCartney:
By letter dated April 14, 2011 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML110240054), the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Amendment Nos. 240 and 244 to Renewed Facility Operating License Nos. DPR-24 and DPR-27 for Point Beach Nuclear Plant (PBNP) Units 1 and 2. The amendments modified the requirements of TS 3.4.16, "RCS [Reactor Coolant System] Specific Activity," and TS 3.7.13, "Secondary Specific Activity," as related to the use of an alternate source term associated with accident offsite and control room dose consequences.
On January 20, 2015, the NRC staff identified an error on page 3 of the Renewed Facility Operating License DPR-27 issued with Amendment No. 244. Specifically, 3.D should have stated that the Commission licenses "NextEra Energy Point Beach to receive, possess and use in amounts as required any byproduct, source or special nuclear material without restriction to chemical or physical form, for sample analysis or instrument calibration or associated with radioactive apparatus or components." The phrase "source or special nuclear material" was inadvertently replaced with "source of special nuclear material" during the issuance of the amendment.
Subsequent to the issuance of Amendment No. 244 for PBNP Unit 2, the NRC issued Amendment Nos. 245 through 255 to the Renewed Facility Operating License DPR-27. The purpose of this letter is to issue the correction for the latest amendment that revised page 3 of the license, which was Amendment No. 255 (ADAMS Accession No. ML15014A249). Please find enclosed the replacement page 3 of the Renewed Facility Operating License for Amendment No. 255 for PBNP Unit 2.
The NRC staff has determined that this was an inadvertent typographical error and is entirely editorial in nature. The proposed correction does not change any of the conclusions in the safety evaluation associated with Amendment No. 255 and does not affect the associated notice to the public.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact me at (301) 415-8371.
