Letter from TVA to NRC, "Compliance Letter in Response to the March 12, 2012 Commission Order Modifying Licenses with Regard to Reliable Spent Fuel Pool Instrumentation (Order Number EA-12-051) for Watts Bar Nuclear Plant (TAC Nos. MF0951 and MF1178)," dated October 29, 2014 (ML14303A561)

On October 29, 2014, Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), provided the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) a compliance letter in response to the March 12, 2012, Order EA-12-051 regarding spent fuel pool instrumentation (Reference Letter). In the information provided, TVA documented full compliance with Order EA-12-051 for Watts Bar Nuclear Plant (WBN), Units 1 and 2, with one open issue.

The open issue dealt with a concern with the temperature qualification of the SFP level transmitters for seven days of operation. Tennessee Valley Authority committed to provide to the NRC resolution to the temperature qualification problem by December 17, 2014.

U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission CNL-14-232 Page 2 December 19, 2014 The purpose of this letter to provide resolution to the temperature qualification concern. A calculation has been performed documenting that the maximum temperature at seven days of operation does not exceed the temperature for which the transmitters have been qualified. This information is documented in calculation MDQ0000782013000405, "Environmental Conditions for Spent Fuel Pool Level Instrumentation during Extended Station Blackout Conditions," Revision 1.

There are no new regulatory commitments in the letter. If you have any question regarding this submittal, please contact Gordon Arent at (423) 365-2004.

I declare under penalty of perjury that the foregoing is true and correct. Executed on the 19th day of December 2014.
