Dear Mr. Filchner:
By letter dated October 29, 2014, (Agencywide Document Access and Management System (ADAMS)
Accession No. ML14302A443) PPL Susquehanna, LLC (PPL), submitted Relief Request 4RR-01 for review and approval for the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (SSES) Units 1 and 2. Specifically, PPL requested to continue to use the Risk-Informed Inservice Inspection (RI-ISI) program as an alternative to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)Section XI, ISI Program for Class 1 and 2 piping welds.
The NRC staff has reviewed the information submitted by the licensee, and based on this review, determined additional information is required to complete the assessment of the relief request. Please find attached a DRAFT copy of the NRC staffs additional information request. These DRAFT RAIs are being sent to you to ensure that the questions are understandable, the regulatory basis for the questions are clear, and to determine if the information was previously docketed. Please notify me by Tuesday, December 16, 2014, if you desire to hold a teleconference to discuss the questions. The NRC staff will request a response to the RAIs within 30 days of the formal NRC RAI transmittal letter.
