Site  : SALEM Emergency Class  : NON EMERGENCY "At approximately 0926 [EST] on December 10, 2014, one live sturgeon and one dead sturgeon were reported being removed from the Salem Circulating Water System (CWS) intake trash racks at the Salem Generating Station. The sturgeons were confirmed by a site biological expert to be Shortnose Sturgeons, which is an 'endangered' species. Shortnose sturgeons are federally listed as 'endangered' species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended. Nuclear Environmental Affairs has made a determination that this is a 4 hr report to the NRC under RAL 11.8.2.a. A report was made to the Nation Marine Fisheries Service and NJDEP Division of Fish & Wildlife, concerning the Shortnose Sturgeon at 1046 by Environmental Licensing.

"The live sturgeon was released back into the river at approximately 1000."

The licensee will be notifying the NRC Resident Inspector, Lower Alloways Creek Township, and the State of New Jersey (Bureau of Nuclear Engineering).
