UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 December 2, 2014 Ms. Phyliss J. Anderson, Chief Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians P.O. Box 6010 -Choctaw Branch Choctaw, MS 39350
SUBJECT:
NOTICE OF AVAILABILITY OF THE FINAL SUPPLEMENTAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT FOR LICENSE RENEWAL OF GRAND GULF NUCLEAR STATION, UNIT 1
Dear Chief Anderson:
Please find enclosed a copy of the final NUREG-1437, Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants, Supplement 50, Regarding Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1. The final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) is being issued as part of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRCs) process to decide whether to issue a renewed operating license to Entergy Operations, Inc. for Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (GGNS). In the final SEIS, the NRC staff determined that the adverse environmental impacts of a renewed license for GGNS is not great enough to deny this option for energy planning decision-makers. In the context of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, NRC staff determined that no historic properties will be affected by the proposed action (license renewal). The final environmental impact statement, together with any comments and any supplement, will accompany the final Safety Evaluation Report to be considered in the Commission's license renewal decisionmaking process.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact Robert Hoffman, Environmental Scientist, at 301-415-1107 or by e-mail at Robert.Hoffman@nrc.gov.
Sincerely,
/RA/
