Acceptance Review for St Lucie-2 MF4538 Half Nozzle Repair Importance: High
- Ken, By letter dated August 1, 2014 (Accession No. ML14224A010), Florida Power and Light Company (the licensee) requested relief from the requirements of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (B&PV Code) for repair and/or replacement of the original Alloy 600 small bore nozzles and pressurizer heater sleeves with Alloy 690 at the St. Lucie, Unit 2.
In accordance with Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRC's) process as described in LIC-109, "Acceptance Review Procedures," the NRC staff has performed an acceptance review to determine if there is sufficient technical information in scope and depth to allow the NRC staff to complete its detailed technical review. The acceptance review was also intended to identify whether the request has any readily apparent information insufficiencies in its characterization of the regulatory requirements or the licensing basis of the plant.
The NRC staff has concluded that the subject relief request does provide technical information in sufficient detail to enable the NRC staff to proceed with its detailed technical review and make an independent assessment regarding the acceptability of the proposed relief request in terms of regulatory requirements and the protection of public health and safety and the environment. If needed, the NRC staff may request for additional information to complete its technical review.
