SUBJECT: ARKANSAS NUCLEAR ONE, UNITS 1 AND 2 - RESPONSE TO NOTICE

OF VIOLATION (NRC INSPECTION REPORT 05000313/2014008

AND 05000368/2014008)

Dear Mr. Browning:

On June 23, 2014, the NRC cited Entergy Operations, Inc.s failure to accomplish a move of the

Unit 1 main turbine generator stator in accordance with documented instructions and

procedures as required by 10 CFR 50, Appendix B, Criterion V, Instructions, Procedures, and

Drawings. The Notice of Violation, enclosed with Inspection Report 05000313/2014008 and

05000368/2014008 (ML14174A832), required you to respond in writing within 30 days. You

responded by letter dated July 18, 2014 (ML14199A412).

We have reviewed your response and find that it meets the requirements of 10 CFR 2.201. We

will review your corrective actions during a future inspection. We also noted that your response

included a discussion regarding safety-related equipment not being damaged by the

March 31, 2013, Unit 1 stator drop event. It is acknowledged that no safety-related components

were damaged by the crane collapse and resulting drop of the main turbine generator stator.

The statement contained in our June 23, 2014, letter that safety-related equipment was affected

by the event was based on the damage caused by the event affecting safety-related systems

such as: (1) the loss of the operating decay heat removal pump in Unit 1 resulting in a

temporary loss of shutdown cooling to the reactor; and (2) a loss of one Unit 2 safety-related

electrical bus that had to be re-energized by a standby emergency diesel generator.
