LEAD TEST ASSEMBLY FOR CYCLE 16 - H. B. ROBINSON STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT, UNIT NO. 2 (TAC NO. 85988)
By letter dated March 15, 1993, Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L or the licensee) submitted a request for NRC review and approval for the continued irradiation of a demonstration assembly during Cycle 16 at the H. B. Robinson Steam Electric Plant, Unit No. 2 (HBR2). Cycle 16 is scheduled to commence in November 1993.
The demonstration assembly is manufactured by Siemens Power Corporation and will be irradiated to a high burnup that exceeds the current licensed limit of 62,000 MWD/MTU peak rod.
The NRC staff has reviewed the licensee's submittal and prepared the enclosed Safety Evaluation that allows one demonstration assembly to be loaded at HBR2 for the high burnup test. The NRC has determined that the proposed demonstration is acceptable for Cycle 16.
