Dear Mr. Orser:

This refers to Mr. McCarthy's letter dated December 15, 1992, in which he stated CP&L's understanding that the route approved for the transport of irradiated reactor fuel by rail from the Robinson and Brunswick nuclear plants to the Shearon Harris nuclear plant, does not require reapproval as long as the route has been used or surveyed within the last two years.

Your understanding is basically correct, however, it is our practice to periodically review approved routes that are frequently used for any changes along the route. In this regard, we consider your existing route approval valid for two years from the date of this letter. At that time, you should request an extension to the approval by contacting this office.
