Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2 - Acceptance Review for Relief Requests RR-8 and RR-9 (TAC Nos. MF4140/MF4141 and MF4142/MF4143)

Dear Mr. Millen:

By letter to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) dated May 13, 2014 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML14133A365), NextEra Energy Point Beach, LLC (NextEra, the licensee) submitted relief requests (RR-8 and RR-9) for the Point Beach Nuclear Plant (Point Beach), Units 1 and 2. Specifically, NextEra is requesting relief from the requirements of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section XI, 2007 Edition with 2008 Addenda, as it applies to the requirements of IWA-5244 for buried service water piping and buried fuel oil piping and tanks, and the requirements of IWD-5220 for pressure testing of emergency diesel generator Class 3 sub-systems. The requested duration of these relief requests is for the Fifth Ten-Year Inservice Inspection Interval which commenced on August 1, 2012, and is scheduled to end on July 31, 2022, for both Point Beach units.

The NRC staff has reviewed your application and concluded that it provides technical information in sufficient detail to enable the NRC staff to complete its detailed technical review and make an independent assessment regarding the acceptability of the proposed relief request in terms of regulatory requirements and the protection of public health and safety and the environment. Given the lesser scope and depth of the acceptance review as compared to the detailed technical review, there may be instances in which issues that impact the NRC staffs ability to complete the detailed technical review are identified despite completion of an adequate acceptance review. You will be advised of any further information needed to support the NRC staffs detailed technical review by separate correspondence.

Please dont hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
