SUBJECT:

BEAVER VALLEY POWER STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 - REVISED DRAFT REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION RE: ADOPTION OF TSTF-425 (TAC NOS. MF2942 AND MF2943)

Dear Mr. Lentz:

By letter dated October 18, 2013, (Agencywide Document Access and Management System (ADAMS)

Accession No. ML13295A006) FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (the licensee) submitted a license amendment request for Beaver Valley Power Station Units 1 and 2 (BVPS). The proposed amendment would modify the BVPS Technical Specifications by relocating specific surveillance frequencies to a licensee controlled program with the implementation of Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) 04-10, "Risk-Informed Technical Specifications Initiative 5b, Risk-Informed Method for Control of Surveillance Frequencies."

The NRC staff has reviewed the information submitted by the licensee, and based on this review, determined additional information is required to complete the assessment of the submitted information. Please find attached a Revised DRAFT copy of the NRC staffs additional information request. The DRAFT RAIs were originally sent to you on May 13, 2014 (ADAMS Accession Nos. ML14133A088 and ML14133A090). The DRAFT RAIs have been revised based on the clarification call held between the NRC staff and the licensee on May 22, 2014. These Revised DRAFT RAIs are being sent to you to ensure that the questions are understandable, the regulatory basis for the questions are clear, and to determine if the information was previously docketed. Please notify me by Tuesday, June 10, 2014, if you desire to hold a teleconference to discuss the questions. The NRC staff will request a response to the RAIs within 30 days of the formal NRC RAI transmittal letter.
