Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Unit 1 - Acceptance Review for Relief Request 1-RR-6: Re-Examination of RPV Indication on the "A" Inlet Nozzle Weld (TAC No. MF3318)

Dear Mr. Millen:

By letter to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) dated December 30, 2013 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Package Accession No. ML14006A317), NextEra Energy Point Beach, LLC (NextEra, the licensee) submitted a relief request (1-RR-6) for the Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Unit

1. NextEra requests to extend the inspection frequency of a reactor pressure vessel inlet dissimilar metal weld due to the radiological and industrial safety concerns involved in removal of the core barrel for gaining access to the weld.

The NRC staff has reviewed your application and concluded that it does provide technical information in sufficient detail to enable the NRC staff to complete its detailed technical review and make an independent assessment regarding the acceptability of the proposed relief request in terms of regulatory requirements and the protection of public health and safety and the environment. Given the lesser scope and depth of the acceptance review as compared to the detailed technical review, there may be instances in which issues that impact the NRC staffs ability to complete the detailed technical review are identified despite completion of an adequate acceptance review. You will be advised of any further information needed to support the NRC staffs detailed technical review by separate correspondence.

Please dont hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely, TERRY A. BELTZ, SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission One White Flint North 11555 Rockville Pike Rockville, MD 20852-2738 Mail Stop: O-8D15 (301) 415-3049 Terry.Beltz@nrc.gov 1
