NOTICE OF AVAILABILITY OF THE DRAFT PLANT-SPECIFIC
Dear Mr. Diya:
SUPPLEMENT 51 TO THE GENERIC ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT FOR LICENSE RENEWAL OF NUCLEAR PLANTS REGARDING CALLAWAY PLANT, UNIT 1 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has completed the draft plant-specific Supplement 51 to NUREG-1437, "Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants (GElS)," regarding the renewal of operating license NPF-30 for an additional 20 years of operation for Callaway Plant, Unit 1 (Callaway). Enclosed is a copy of the draft supplement and the associated Federal Register Notice of Availability. This notice advises the public that the draft supplement is publicly available at the NRC public document room or from the NRC's Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS). ADAMS is accessible from the NRC website at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html. The Accession Number for draft Supplement 51 to the GElS is ML14041A373. In addition, the Callaway County Public Library, 710 Court Street, Fulton, Missouri 65251 has agreed to make the draft supplement available for public inspection.
As discussed in Chapter 9 of the draft supplement, the preliminary recommendation is that the adverse environmental impacts of license renewal for Callaway are not great enough to deny the option of license renewal for energy-planning decisionmakers. This recommendation is based on: (1) the analysis and findings in the GElS; (2) the Environmental Report submitted by Ameren; (3) consultation with Federal, state, local, and tribal agencies; (4) the NRC staffs own independent review; and (5) the staffs consideration of public comments received during the seeping process.
Public meetings to discuss the findings of the draft SEIS will be held on March 19, 2014, at the Fulton City Hall, 18 East 41h Street, Fulton, Missouri 65251. The first session will convene at 2:00p.m. and will continue until 3:30p.m., as necessary. The second session will convene at 7:00p.m. and will continue until 8:30p.m., as necessary. An NRC meeting notice will be published to provide more details about those public meetings.
A separate Notice of Availability of the draft supplemental environmental impact statement will be placed in the Federal Register through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
