Accession Number ML13346A174), Luminant Generation Company LLC (Luminant, the licensee) requested relief from the 0.125 inch root mean square error depth sizing requirements of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (ASME Code),Section XI, Code Case N-695, "Qualification Requirements for Dissimilar Metal Piping Welds." for the second 10-year inservice inspection (ISI) interval, at the Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant (CPNPP), Unit 2.
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has reviewed and evaluated the information provided by the licensee and has determined that the following information is needed in order to complete its review of the relief request.
Relief Request No. B-14 states the four nozzles in CPNPP, Unit 2 covered in this relief request are constructed of stainless steel and are clad with stainless steel. This is an unusual configuration and is not consistent with Relief Request No. B-2 dated January 16, 2013, (ADAMS Accession Numbers ML13029A592), which states that the four similar nozzles in CPNPP, Unit 1 are constructed of carbon steel and clad with stainless steel.
Please confirm the materials of construction for the nozzle, safe end, piping, and welds for TCX-1-4100-1, TCX-1-4200-1, TCX-1-4300-1, and TCX-1-4400-1 at CPNPP, Unit 2.
Draft RAIs were sent via e-mail on January 13, 2014. Jack Hicks of Luminant informed on January 13, 2014 that a clarification call is not needed and agreed to provide the response within 30 days from the date of this e-mail. Please treat this e-mail as formal transmittal of RAIs.
